Ellen Khuzwayo Closing date : 10 May 2010

Ellen Khuzwayo, who has died aged 91, was one of South Africa’s most respected women. She was an anti-apartheid and women’s rights activist and author.

Ellen Khuzwayo’s autobiography "Call Me Woman", is a wonderful book that speaks about the trials and tribulations of African women under apartheid.

Of this book Ellen Khuzwayo said, "My motivation for writing the book was born out of the negative image about black women in South Africa, promoted by the general community of white people of this country, in particular the women . . . who employed African workers as domestic workers"

Rest in Peace, Mama Ellen.
