SA's first mobile TV service
On 23 November MultiChoice South Africa, owner of the DStv bouquet of satellite pay-TV channels, launched South Africa’s first ever mobile TV service, as well as Drifta, a mini decoder that allows subscribers to access the service on iPads, iPhones, iPod Touch units, laptops and PCs. The launch of DStv Mobile TV has been a long time coming as MultiChoice first embarked on the mobile TV path in 2005.

The R2K Silent March in Gauteng on 19 October 2010

People Opposing Women Abuse: 2010 Women’s Writing Project
People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), a NGO whose main purpose is to create a safer society that does not tolerate violence against women, and where women are powerful, self reliant, equal and respected, is calling for entries for the 2010 POWA Women’s Writing Project. Submissions will be accepted in the categories; poetry, short stories and personal essays.

The Funza Lushaka Bursary
Applications for the Funza Lushaka bursary in 2010 are closed. The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme that promotes teaching in public schools. Full-cost bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a full teaching qualification in an area of national priority. Recipients of these bursaries will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they receive the bursary.

Film Firms 'Face Closure' if SABC Stalls Further on Local Proposals
Independent film and documentary producers have warned that they will be forced to close their doors if SABC’s new board does not soon issue proposals for new local programmes, as promised.  The Television Industry Emergency Coalition said the new board, led by Ben Ngubane, had promised them in March that requests for proposals would be issued by the end of last month.

Africa on Screen Calls for Entries
The annual African Film Festival, Africa on Screen, will showcase a host of African films during the week of 24 to 30 June. Filmmakers have until 14 May to submit their films. All submissions to include approx. 200 word synopsis, 2 stills from the film & a complete  filmography/biography of the director. Filmmakers must guarantee, that permission from the rights holder are secured for a minimum of five screenings at this Festival.
