We are the first generation that could see every person on the planet in school. Right now 72 million children are missing out on the chance go to school.  Millions of people throughout the world face a daily battle against poverty. They grow up working to survive and miss out on an education. Children born into families affected by HIV, living in rural areas, areas of conflict, or in an ethnic minority are also much more likely to never see the inside of a classroom. For millions more in school, many struggle to learn. They sit in classes with more than 100 pupils, with no textbooks, and often teachers are poorly and unpaid for lengths of time. Generations have now grown up without a good education.  Right now there are 774 million adults who cannot read and write. Two thirds of them are women and girls who have been excluded simply because they have less power in society. Educated women earn more, their children live longer, and they are less likely to be affected by illness, HIV, or be sexually violated. And education has been promised to everyone by nearly every government in the world. In 2000 world leaders met and promised Education For All by 2015. Join the Global Campaign for Education. Make education for all a reality.
