Saving for a Better Tomorrow

In this project, Bright Media won the bid to develop volunteer staff at ABSA with a multimedia pack that provides real skills for the classroom and enables the staff volunteer to stand up in a school and teach one of the lessons for one of the Grades: (Grade 3, 5 or 7). The episode is shown visually through the DVD containing reach teacher trainers providing the practical advice on how to do this lesson in a real classroom. A savings song was developed for the grades, as well as stories that are shown in an animated format (see enclosed). The pack contains:

  • The booklet: a printed resource, with knowledge background for Grades 1-3, 4-5 and 6-7. This will be a 32 page booklet, self cover, printed x 10 000 copies. 4 pages will be allocated to each grade, with photocopiable activity pages linked to the curriculum. Four pages of general information on methodology and approach.
  • The DVD: an audiovisual training resource, for the volunteers to watch, which will model the actual lessons, where we will see the materials in the pack, and see the lessons and with some show practically, 3 lessons (one per phase for primary schools).
  • The poster: an A3 sized, full colour poster, which will be useful in all primary school classrooms, and will be left behind to reinforce the money lessons from ABSA.
  • The volunteers: This project will allow volunteers to reach classrooms directly, and both have a face-to-face impact with teachers, and an ongoing influence through the resources left behind.
  • The reach: 10 000 volunteers can therefore reach a minimum of 400 000 learners, to develop their financial capability.
